The Remade Landscape

I've been thinking a lot about the idea of the pristine landscape, the real wilderness, and how it doesn't exist- it never really has. We are always remaking the landscape and the ideal of pure wilderness is just a myth- made by us. I thought maybe I could somehow get closer to that idea if I removed the very reason I took the photo to begin with and was left with a "subjectless" view. Also impossible....

...And The Glamour of Process

We actually camped out on the jobsite for this install...

 Center panels up, scaffolding.

Not a bad view..I have to say, there's something about the light on Long Island

The Celestial Mural

After a year of delays, it's finally up- 7 canvas panels making up a 20x25' ceiling of constellations. Thanks to my brother Dave for installing with me!

confronting the landscape

Most of my work has had figures blocking the view....now I'm dealing with view. I've been asking myself over the past few months: what is my position towards nature?
